EXPERT IN PILONIDAL SINUS SURGERY

Dr. Carlos Ortiz Johansson

I was born in Sweden in 1970, from a Spanish father and a Swedish mother, so I am bilingual in these two languages, although I also speak English very fluently and French, somewhat less fluently.

I moved to Spain in 1991 to start my medical studies at the Complutense University of Madrid. At the end of my studies I trained as a resident intern in the specialty of General and Digestive System Surgery in the Department of Digestive System Surgery and Abdominal Organ Transplantation at the Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid.

After completing this formative stage in one of the most prestigious hospitals and surgical services in the country, where surgery is performed at the highest level, both oncological and in the field of transplantation, I began working as an assistant surgeon at the General Hospital of La Palma, on the wonderful island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. Almost 3 years later, I moved to the Complejo Hospitalario La Mancha Centro in Alcazar de San Juan. In these two hospitals I had the opportunity to develop and acquire autonomy as a general surgeon in a very enriching and different context to that of training as a resident in a large hospital in Madrid.

In 2008 he began working at the Hospital Universitario Infanta Leonor de Madrid, where I continue to work to date, as a surgeon attached to the unit of colorectal and proctologic surgery.

Since 2008 I have combined my activity in this public hospital, with the practice of private medicine at the Hospital San Rafael de los Hermanos de San Juan de Dios in Madrid, as an assistant surgeon of the surgical service of this center.

During the almost 25 years that I have been working as a surgeon, I have acquired a great interest in colorectal and proctologic surgery, and especially in minimally invasive surgery, both advanced laparoscopy in benign and malignant colorectal processes, as well as minimally invasive transanal surgery (TAMIS).

Innova Surgery was born with the purpose of providing our experience in the management of colorectal and proctological diseases, as well as in other fields of General Surgery, particularly in the surgical management of Pilonidal Sinus (SP).
